Lilium 'Stargazer'

Lilium 'Stargazer' is perhaps the most famous Oriental lily, celebrated for its massive, upward-facing blooms and an intense, spicy fragrance that can perfume an entire garden.

Key Characteristics

• Flowers: Deep crimson-pink petals with dark freckles and a crisp, contrasting white edge. Unlike many lilies that hang their heads, these face the sky.
• Height: Typically grows to 90cm - 1.2m (3-4 feet).
• Bloom Time: Late summer, flowering from July into August.
• Scent: Powerful, sweet, and exotic.

Cultivation and Care

• Soil: Prefers acidic (ericaceous) soil. If your garden soil is alkaline (limey), grow them in pots using ericaceous compost.
• Position: Plant in full sun or partial shade. Keep the "feet" (roots) cool with mulch or low-growing companion plants.
• Planting: Plant bulbs 15-20cm deep in autumn or spring.

Critical Safety Warning

Stargazer lilies are highly toxic to cats. Ingesting even a small amount of pollen or water from a vase can cause fatal kidney failure. They are generally safe for dogs and horses.
