Product description

Dahlia 'Golden Emblem' is a vibrant, large-flowered decorative dahlia variety known for its showy, bright yellow blooms that provide excellent colour and height to garden displays and cut flower arrangements.

Key Characteristics

  • Flower Colour & Type: Produces large, fully double, bright golden-yellow flowers with a golden centre. The blooms can reach an impressive 20-25cm in diameter.
  • Height: The plant is tall and robust, typically growing to an eventual height of 1 to 1.35 metres (approx. 3 to 4.5 feet) on strong stems.
  • Flowering Period: Provides a long-lasting display of colour from July through to the first autumn frosts.
  • Usage: Due to its height and prolific blooms, it is a superb addition to the back of borders, in large containers, and is a top choice for cut flowers. It is also popular with bees and butterflies.

Cultivation and Care

  • Position: Plant in a sunny, sheltered location with fertile, moist, but well-drained soil.
  • Planting: Tubers should be planted around 10-15cm deep in late spring (March to May) after the last frost has passed.
  • Maintenance: Taller varieties may require staking for support. Requires regular watering during dry spells and benefits from a high-potash liquid feed from July onwards. Regular deadheading encourages continuous blooming.
  • Overwintering: The tubers are tender and must be protected from freezing temperatures. In most UK areas, it is safest to lift the tubers in autumn after the first frost has blackened the foliage and store them in a cool, dry, frost-free place over winter.
