Dahlia 'Rebecca's World' is a spectacular decorative variety famous for its unpredictable and "colour-changing" blooms. Each plant can produce a mix of solid red, solid white, and bicoloured flowers simultaneously, making it a unique talking point in the garden.
Key Characteristics
- Flower Type & Colour: Large, fully double decorative blooms (approx. 13-15cm wide). Petals are a mix of cherry red, magenta, and white.
- Unique Feature: Flowers are "colour-shifters"; some open red and mature to white, while others do the opposite.
- Height: Grows to a statuesque 90cm to 1.2m (36-48 inches).
- Flowering Period: Prolific bloomer from July until the first autumn frosts.
- Usage: Excellent for middle or back borders and a premier choice for cut flower arrangements.
Cultivation and Care
- Position: Prefers full sun in a sheltered spot with fertile, well-drained soil.
- Planting: Plant tubers 10-15cm deep in late spring after the risk of frost has passed. Space plants roughly 45-60cm apart.
- Maintenance: Pinch out the growing tips when the plant is 30cm tall to encourage bushier growth. Stake taller plants to prevent wind damage.
- Overwintering: These are half-hardy tubers. In colder regions, lift and store them in a frost-free, dry place over winter. In milder areas, they may survive in the ground if protected by a thick mulch.
