Product description

Begonia 'Yellow Cascading' is a popular tuberous begonia variety known for its vibrant, cheerful yellow, double flowers and distinct trailing habit, making it an excellent choice for hanging baskets and containers.

Key Characteristics

  • Flowers: Produces abundant, bright, double-yellow blooms that can reach up to 15cm across in some "Giant Cascading" varieties. The flowers have a graceful, pendulous habit, "cascading gracefully" over the edge of pots.
  • Height & Spread: Typically grows to a height of 30-40cm, with a spread of 30-50cm, ideal for elevated displays.
  • Flowering Period: A long-lasting summer favourite, flowering continuously from June/July until the first autumn frosts (October/November).
  • Foliage: Features lush, green, sword-shaped leaves that complement the bright blooms.
  • Usage: Primarily used in hanging baskets, window boxes, and containers where its trailing habit can be fully appreciated.

Cultivation and Care

  • Position: Thrives in partial shade or dappled sun, and in positions that offer shelter from strong winds.
  • Planting: Plant the tubers in early spring (February onwards indoors, May outdoors after frost) with the hollow side facing upwards, about 10-15cm deep.
  • Soil: Prefers moist but well-drained, fertile soil.
    • Maintenance: Requires regular watering, ensuring consistent moisture without waterlogging the tubers. Staking is not usually necessary due to its compact and trailing habit.
  • Overwintering: The tubers are tender and must be lifted in autumn and stored in a cool, dry, and frost-free location over winter.
