Product description

Begonia 'Pink Cascading' is a tender tuberous perennial that produces an abundance of elegant, double-pink flowers with a trailing habit, making it perfect for hanging baskets and containers.

Key Characteristics

  • Flowers: Features sprays of double pink flowers that gently spill over the edges of pots and baskets. Varieties like 'Giant Cascading Pink' offer fully double, ruffled blooms for a long-lasting show.
  • Height & Spread: Typically grows to a height of 20-30cm (approx. 8-12 inches) and can trail up to 60cm.
  • Flowering Period: Provides continuous blooms from June or July until the first autumn frosts (October/November).
  • Foliage: Lush, dark green, serrated leaves contrast beautifully with the bright flowers.
  • Usage: Ideal for hanging baskets, window boxes, and containers where its cascading habit is a focal point.

Cultivation and Care

  • Position: Thrives in partial shade but can also tolerate full sun in certain climates, as long as it's sheltered from strong winds.
  • Planting: Plant the tubers in spring after all risk of frost has passed. The hollow side of the tuber should face upwards, just covered by 1-2 cm of compost.
  • Maintenance: Water regularly, keeping the soil moist but not waterlogged. A high-potash liquid feed (like tomato fertiliser) every few weeks will promote abundant flowering.
  • Overwintering: The tubers are tender (half-hardy) and require protection from frost. Lift them in autumn, dry them, and store in a cool, dark, frost-free location for the winter.
