Product description

Gladiolus 'Halley' (often classified as Gladiolus nanus 'Halley') is a charming dwarf variety valued for its compact size and early, elegant blooms. Unlike standard gladioli, it is naturally sturdy and typically does not require staking.

Key Characteristics

  • Flowers: Produces funnel-shaped, creamy-ivory to pale yellow blooms. - The petals often feature striking carmine red or crimson streaks and a golden-yellow throat.
  • Height: Reaches a mature height of 40-80cm (approx. 16-32 inches), making it ideal for the front or middle of borders and patio containers.
  • Bloom Time: One of the earlier-flowering varieties, typically blooming from June to August or September.
  • Foliage: Features dark grey-green, sword-shaped leaves typical of the genus.
  • Wildlife: Highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.

Cultivation and Care

  • Planting: Best planted in spring (March to May) once the soil has warmed and the risk of frost has passed. Plant corms roughly 10-15cm deep and 10cm apart. Position: Thrives in full sun and well-drained, fertile soil. Succession: For a continuous display, stagger planting dates every two weeks throughout the spring.
