Product description

Gladiolus 'Priscilla' is a popular, large-flowered gladiolus cultivar known for its tall spikes of ruffled, multi-coloured blooms which are excellent for garden displays and cut flowers.

Key Characteristics

  • Flower Colour: The blooms feature a beautiful blend of colours, typically with creamy-white or ivory petals, a pale yellow or golden throat, and vibrant candy-pink or rose-pink frilled edges.
  • Height: The plant produces tall, strong, and erect stems, typically reaching heights of 1 to 1.5 metres (approx. 3 to 5 feet).
  • Flowering Period: They typically flower during the summer months, from July to September, offering a long-lasting display. Staggered planting every two weeks from the last frost date until early summer can ensure continuous blooms.
  • Foliage: Like other gladioli, it has distinctive sword-like green leaves.
  • Usage: Due to their impressive height and striking appearance, they are ideal for beds, borders, containers, and are a top choice for cut flower arrangements.

Cultivation Tips

  • Position: Plant in a sunny spot with well-drained soil to ensure the best flowering results.
  • Planting: Plant the corms (bulbs) about 10-15cm deep and the same distance apart in spring. Adding a bed of sharp sand can aid drainage, especially in heavy soil.
  • Care: Provide consistent moisture during the growing season. Taller varieties may require staking for support against wind. In colder areas, the corms are half-hardy and should be lifted and stored in a frost-free location over winter.
